Learning all about dental implants is important for you and for our Silver Lake team to deliver a restorative treatment that’s successful and long-lasting. Once you feel confident and comfortable about discovering your proper treatment, it will make your implant process go smoothly and efficiently. Dr. Valery Sweeny and Dr. Shahin Bina can answer your dental implant questions here.
Why should I choose dental implants over traditional dentures?
Unlike dentures, dental implants help preserve your remaining jawbone and keep your face from distorting due to bone loss. Implants look and feel just like your natural teeth and provide a durable solution that permanently attaches directly to your jaw, instead of snapping in temporarily.
Will I be in pain from my dental implant procedure?
Here at our Silver Lake dental office, we want to ensure comfort and safety while placing your implants. We offer oral conscious sedation to help with any possible discomfort that may arise during your procedure. Our advanced technology also helps us diminish your pain through it’s precise and accurate placement.
Can any dentist place implants?
Inserting dental implants is not a skill acquired by every dentist. Dr. Bina is a specifically trained implant surgeon at Valery Sweeny who assists Dr. Sweeny in restorative care for our patients. In order to be carefully and correctly place with no complications and lasting results, Dr. Bina has completed numerous courses on dental implantology, as well as taught implant courses at Bina Dental Institute.
How expensive are dental implants?
The cost of dental implants varies from patient to patient. Depending on the condition of your oral health, how many teeth you’re missing, and if you may require preliminary procedures are all deciding factors for your treatment plan and costs. Dr. Sweeny or Dr. Bina can discuss these costs entirely at your first consultation after examining the condition of your mouth.
How long will the procedure take?
Unless you qualify for immediate load implants, the entire dental implant process can take up to several months within multiple appointments. Healing is important between each appointment in order to provide long-lasting results and success of your dental implant.
Can children receive dental implants?
It’s commonly recommended that children don’t get dental implants until they have officially grown and developed into their jaw and full-set of teeth. Dr. Sweeny or Dr. Bina will determine if there is an alternative treatment for them. We usually wait until your daughter is at least 16-years-old and for your son to be 18-years-old, as that is when they have generally fully developed.
Are there any food restrictions with dental implants?
No! Once you have completely healed, you can go back to eating all your favorite foods again. There are no longer any restrictions on your diet. However, be sure to be cautious of what you eat while your restoration is still healing because it is easy for food particles to get stuck in your gums and cause infections.
How do I care for my dental implants?
Dental implants are just like your natural teeth. There are no extra tasks required to clean or keep up with your implants. As long as you brush, floss, and visit our Silver Lake office twice a year for your basic check-ups, your dental implants have the potential to last for decades.
